Lubricants 101
Welcome to lubricants 101. I am going to give you some slippery suggestions on how to choose your base. Most of us produce enough self-lubrication when we are young. As we get older different factors can play a part in a less than ideal environment to play in. Hormonal changes in our bodies, stress, medication we are taking all can affect our ability to self-lubricate. You may need lubrication if you are role-playing and your fantasy does not involve an area that self-lubricates.
Whatever the reason needing additional lubrication and is very normal and there is no need to panic or feel embarrassed. A few drops of the right lubricant can definitely enhance your lovemaking sessions. In fact, those few drops of liquid magic can extend your lovemaking time and feel more pleasurable.
Choose Your Base
I will begin with water-based lubricants which are most commonly used and manufactured. The first ingredient you will find will be either water or aloe. If glycerin is the first ingredient listed it will be very thick and might be more of a “warming lotion”.
Water-based are great for women that just need a little extra help. Water-based lubes tend to feel cool to the skin and may get a little sticky after a while. When this happens just add a little water to reactivate. Water-based lubes offers the most variety of lubes, to include flavored, warming, stimulating and natural lubricants. Water-based, unlike a silicone lube, washes off easily, does not stain and is compatible with all toy materials.
High-quality Silicone-based lubricants are long lasting and heighten sensation. Silicone does not dry out like a water-based lube and is great for menopausal women. If you are looking for a lubricant that you can use in the water, silicone would be the way to go. Silicone is compatible with latex, glass and plastic material but cannot be used with most silicone devices.
More Slippery Suggestions
Hybrid lubricants are a mixture of water and silicone based lubricants. Hybrids have a slippery feel but are thin enough to allow sensation. Great for menopausal women because it hydrates, protects and traps moisture in the skin.
Plant-based lubricants can be in gel or liquid form. Plant-based lubes contain a blend of plant-based derivatives instead of silicone polymers or petroleum products. They are often referred to as “natural”. Plant-based lubes provide a smooth glide and feel very silky. Some plant-based lubes contain a natural form of glycerin derived from vegetable oil or plant cellulose. Most plant-based formulas are compatible with all toy materials. Great for women that are very sensitive.
