5 Adult Toys with Origins Beyond the Ages
Some may think humanity’s love for sex began with Flower Children and the Free Love Movement of the 1960s. But, our ancestors were centuries ahead of us when it comes to “getting it on.” These five ancient sex toys are proof.
1. Dildo
This may be the world’s most durable sex-related invention, as old as 23,000 B.C. The oldest dildo known to man (that we could find through our research at least) was an enormous, 8-inch stone found in Germany about 26,000 years ago. However, since archaeologists keep stumbling upon ancient dildos, even older ones may exist. There was no shame in using sex toys during this prehistoric era.
2. Penis Enlarger and the Strap-On
As far back as the third century, men were interested in enlarging their penis sizes. Many men turned to an ancient discovery known today as a strap-on. Thanks to the Kama Sutra, a manual for sexual living, men tried all sorts of age-old penis enhancing ideas. Here are two:
- Wasp stingers were rubbed on the schlong, which caused it to swell.
- Silver, ivory, wood, or gold-constructed apadravyas were placed onto the penis to make it thicker and/or longer.
3. Vibrator
Back in 1869, a hysterical woman was considered to be ill. Treatment involved rubbing her vaginal area, including the clitoris, until she reached an orgasm. During this Victorian period, doctors who performed this “assisted masturbation” procedure often became bored or complained of aching wrists.
So, George Taylor came up with the world’s first vibrator, which was powered by steam. In 1880, J. Granville created an electrochemical design, which drove housewives crazy… sexually.
4. Penis Ring or Cock Ring
In 1200, an ancient Chinese man typically had a wife, concubines and mistresses who all had to be sexually satisfied. But ultimate orgasms were not the only goals. Men were also pressured to produce heirs. All of this could lead to sexual anxiety, which could lead to “limp lead” or premature ejaculation.
Also called a cock ring, the original penis ring was crafted using goats’ eyelids, with the eyelashes still in place. It helped men “keep it up” for hours.
5. Geisha Balls
It seems that Geisha Balls hit the scene in the Orient about A.D. 500. Invented to sexually pleasure men, women quickly discovered pleasurable uses of their own. For both men and women, these ancient sex toys were great for heightening sexual pleasure, as well as some really exciting masturbation.
